"Some people look at obstacles as limitations; I look at obstacles and see opportunities." - Corey Nett

My name is Corey and I have Cerebral Palsy. I attended Western Kentucky University and received my bachelors in journalism, with an emphasis in sociology. I am thirty-six years old and recently retired from the Jefferson County Attorney's Office, after almost eight-and-a-half years. I have been an advocate and a fighter all my life, whether it was for the disadvantaged or in the political arena.

It is my hope that this blog is only a continuation of that advocacy. I would also like to start a new conversation about the differently-abled community. I would like to claim that I came up with the concept of differently-abledness, but I would be lying. However, my goal here is simple: I want to make the idea of being differently-abled a more mainstream and understood concept. I believe by adopting this term, it would allow people to focus on our abilities, instead of our inabilities, like the two words that are commonly prescribed to us: disabled and handicapped.

I would like to invite everyone to join in on the conversation and create an environment where we can have an open dialogue, where we can learn from one another, and where we can embrace and discover the abilities that all people have, some in more hidden ways than others.
